Gone Fishin’ Field Report – Online Evangelism 26/3/23

Sunday night was quiet, so I thought I would try and redeem some time by sharing the Gospel online.

There were a few in the Needgod Jitsi chatroom, so I chatted for a while, and then they asked if they could watch me do some chats. So I shared my Omegle screen for them to watch. I had 3 chats of note.

First up was a Muslim teen from Delhi, India. He thought he would go to heaven because God would let him in. I asked why God would do that for him. He said because he forgives, and He sees the good things he was trying to do. I asked him if he believed in justice. He said he did. So I asked if he thought God believed in justice too. He said yes again. I asked him if an earthly judge let people off crimes, would he be a good judge? He said no, of course not. So I asked if God was a perfect judge (much better than an earthly one), why should he then let him off all the bad things he has done like lying, stealing, using bad language etc? He thought for a while. I was expecting him to say that God is different than an earthly judge (standard Muslim response). He did start to say this, but then he also said that my logic made sense. So I asked him how can God deal out perfect justice, yet be perfectly merciful at the same time? He couldn’t think of anything, so I asked him what if someone took 100% of his hell punishment for him. He was intrigued by this, so I went on to explain Christ taking our hell punishment for us. He was glued to the screen. I could hear someone talking in the background, and he said he had to go to the mosque for prayers. I quickly gave him the link for a free bible download, and the needgod social links. He took a picture before saying goodbye. Afterwards I felt fearful for him, so I prayed that any persecution he would receive from his family if they found out he was listening to a Christian, would be minimal.

Next was a guy from Glendale Heights, Ill. It was a circular discussion with him. We eventually got past the logic that there was a creator, but when I pressed that this creator might hold him accountable for things he had done in the creators universe, he went rambling about how much religion has messed things up. I asked him what things he had done to want to deny the creator, then he went back to if there was a creator or not. Frustrating, but at least he saw the social links before leaving.

Lastly, I spoke to a guy from Tirana, Albania. He was resting on his bed. He had not long woken up from a coma after a serious accident. He was very chatty. He told me that while in a coma, he remembers seeing lots of lights, all telling him to come to him. He asked was that God? I said it was too hard to tell, as dreams are hard to interpret, as they are based on feelings, memories, and even movies or TV we have watched. But I did say that maybe he awoke from his coma in order for him to talk to me. I asked about the afterlife, and he believed in heaven and hell. We discussed if he would get to heaven. He didn’t know, so a few questions confirmed that he wouldn’t make it. We went through the usual ‘I have changed for the better / if I ask for forgiveness’ scenarios, and he agreed they wouldn’t cut it with God. He agreed that only 100% faith in Christ for the forgiveness of his sins would gain him entry to heaven. When I asked when he was going to do that, he said right before he died. I asked when was that going to happen? He said when he was on his deathbed. I used his accident as an example – if he had another one from which he didn’t wake up from, where would he go? He said hell. Then said that right now would be the best time to transfer his trust from himself to Christ. I said it was no accident that we talked when we did. I gave him all the social, Bible, and church links. He said thanks for talking to him. I pray he follows through with his decision!

So a great way to spend an hour or so on a Sunday night – spreading the Gospel to whatever country God links me to!
