No Hope In This World

A poem / song I wrote after reading the book of Ecclesiastes, and seeing the tragedy of trusting in the things of this world, and the false hope it offers.

I find solace through the Triune Godhead, who perfectly equip and strengthen me for my journey in this world, and give me hope and joy for the next.

Still a work in progress, so this might change next time you visit. I thought I would post anyway!

No Hope In This World

Verse 1 (Eccl 5:13-15, 8:12-13, Eph 1:3-6, Phil 4:11)

I have no hope in this world

No bastion for my trust

For it’s riches and it’s glamour

Now consumed by rot, or rust.

But God, my steadfast fortress,

It’s in You I find true peace

For I know when this world fails me

Your love shall never cease.

 CHORUS (Eccl 12:1-5, Ps 121:1-5, Eph 1:7-10)

I will remember my redeemer

When all hope on earth is lost

I will trust upon His sacrifice

And dwell upon the cost.

I have no hope in this world

But my heart in Christ is blessed

So my only hope is Jesus –

He is my final rest.

Verse 2 (Eccl 4:1-3, Eph 1:13-14)

I have no help from this world;

No comforter, or guide

No one to fully lean upon

And to never leave my side.

But Holy Spirit, you lead me,

Like an ever constant friend,

To the blessed foot of Jesus’ cross,

And seal me, to the end.

I will remember my redeemer

When all hope on earth is lost

I will trust upon His sacrifice

And dwell upon the cost.

I have no hope in this world

But my heart in Christ is blessed

So my only hope is Jesus –

He is my final rest.

BRIDGE (Eccl 2:18-26, Ezek 36:26-27, Eph 1:3, )

Lord, turn to flesh my heart of stone

And help me trust in You alone

May all this beauty in my view

Seem meaningless compared to you

For what am I without my King?

You give me joy, from which I sing!

Verse 3 (Eccl 5:16-17, Eph 1:11-12)

I have no heav’n in this world,

Nor guarantee past death

And no promise of a better life

Far beyond my final breath.

But Christ, upon that splintered cross

You took my hell-bound place

Oh, I’m heaven-bound forever

And it’s only by your grace.

Yes, Christ, upon that splintered cross

You took my hell-bound place

Oh, I’m heaven-bound forever

And it’s only by your grace.

So, I will remember my redeemer

When all hope on earth is lost

I will trust upon His sacrifice

And dwell upon the cost.

I have no hope in this world

But my heart in Christ is blessed

So my only hope is Jesus –

He is my final rest.

No, I have no hope in this world

But my heart in Christ is blessed

So my only hope is Jesus –

He is my final rest.
